My favorite time of the year just started. I start counting at the end of August and December 31st breaks my heart, because the best time is over: Christmas.
Next to all the lights, the candy, the music and the love you can’t skip the Christmas markets all over the world. Especially Europes markets are pretty famous. And where can you find some of the best markets? Right, in Austria, to be specific, in Vienna. I can’t remember seeing a town so magical during this time. I already shared my feelings and pictures of Vienna during Christmas H E R E but now I finally share the best markets.
Well my cousin does, since she lived there for 2 years, she is my little Insider about Vienna. So here are some of her and my favorite markets in town.
Winter at “Museumsquartier”
it’s the Hipster market. You’ll find some glass houses selling food and drinks and great, modern music on the weekends.

“Adventszauber” in front of town hall
That’s the most sappy market you’ll find in Vienna. Way to colurful for Christmas but it still has a lot of Charme making it worth the visit. And it is also great, cause you’ll find everything you imagine on a market there.

Christmas market at Maria-Theresien-Platz
Beautiful market in between the Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History. They have a lot of food choices and you should definitely try a waffle and a punch. ;)

Bim: D|1|2|46|49|71 -> Dr. Karl-Renner-Ring
Christmas village at the old hospital (AKH)
great market in the patio of the old hospital. This is more of a secret location which means more locals and less tourists.

Christmas village at the Belvedere Castle
A Christmas market with an unique back drop, and surprisingly little crowd.
Where: Prinz Eugen-Straße 27 -> map
How: Bim: D -> Schloss Belvedere
Christmas market on Spittlberg
nice Christmas market which is spread over three narrow alleys. You can find everything arts and crafts and very special things here. Try to avoid the peak times since it can get pretty crowded and tight there. But it is still such a great market.

How: Tube: U2 -> Museumsquartier | U3 -> Volkstheater
Bim: D|1|2|46|49|71 -> Dr. Karl-Renner-Ring | 46|49 -> Volkstheater
Market in front of Karls Church
This Christmas market has, besides some great options for food and drink, a live native scene. You even can pet the animals.
Where: Kreuzherrengasse 1 -> map
How: Tube: U2|U4 -> Karlsplatz

Christmas market Castle Schönbrunn
This little market is perfect to combine with a visit to the castle of princess Sissi. You can’t miss that when in Vienna.
Where: Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 47 -> map
How: Tube: U4 -> (Schloss) Schönbrunn
Christmas market at the Türkenschanz park
I love tiny cozy Christmas markets and this is one of them. You can eat super delicious waffles after a nice walk through the park, including feedding ducks at the pond. If you like it more calmed down and local you should go visit that one.
Where: Adolf-von-Guttenberg-Haus, Feistmantelstraße 4 -> map
How: Bim 41 -> Türkenschanzpark
