Was haben eine Dragqueen, ein Ritter, Jesus und der stärkste Glühwein gemeinsam?
Sie alle findest du auf den Weihnachtsmärkten in München.
Ich meine zu glauben, dass es klar ist, warum man Jesus dort finden kann? Sei es in Form einer Holzfigur die in der Krippe liegt, oder geschrieben auf einer Karte mit „Happy Birthday Jesus“, auch der Glühwein ist selbstverständlich auf einem Weihnachtsmarkt, aber der stärkste? Und was haben ein Ritter und eine Dragqueen hier zu suchen? München bietet viel und noch mehr, vor allem an Weihnachten wimmelt es nur so von Märkten, und weil manche so besonders, oder so speziell sind und zu meinen absoluten Favoriten gehören, gebe ich dir hier meine Lieblinge preis.
Weihnachtsmarkt am chinesischem Turm
Du stehst im englischem Garten, am chinesischem Turm und lauscht bayerischer Musik.
Die ist einer der klassischsten Weihnachtsmärkten (oder Christkindlmärkten) aus meinen Top 7. Ein kleiner Markt, umgeben von Bäumen, Buden die selbstgemachtes verkaufen, der Duft von Tannenzweigen und Waffeln liegt in der Luft, es gibt Glühwein und Punsch wie man ihn kennt und unter dem mit Lichterketten geschmückten chinesischem Turm spielt Blasmusik. Und wer Kinder unterhalten möchte, kann die Kleinen zur Leseoma schicken. Dort sitzen sie auf Schaffellen und hören einer Weihnachtsgeschichte zu.

Schwabinger Weihnachtsmarkt
Mehr Künstlermarkt als Weihnachtsmarkt, der sich selbst beschreibt mit „..wir verlassen die Alltäglichkeiten..“. Dieser Markt ist super um noch ein paar letzte Weihnachtsgeschenke zu besorgen, da es wirklich ganz besonders schöne Stücke gibt, welche alle handgemacht sind. Zu Essen gibt es nicht nur Bratwurst, Flammkuchen oder Crépes, sondern auch Baguette oder Gyros.

Mittelalterlicher Weihnachtsmarkt
Kommen wir endlich zum Ritter und wo findet man ihn besser als auf einem Weihnachtsmarkt im Mittelalterlichem Stil? Nicht nur sind die Verkaufsbuden passend zum Thema dekoriert, sondern die Kleidung der Beteiligten passt perfekt. Etwas ganz besonderes sind die Aufführungen die regelmäßig stattfinden. Der Markt ist kein Geheimtipp und es ist immer viel los, aber dies kann nur bedeuten, dass er einen Besuch wert ist. Und vielleicht findet ihr euch in einem Gespräch wieder das in etwa so klingt:
Verkäufer: „Seid willkommen an den Stätten.“
Kunde: „Oh seht nur Mutter diese Pracht.“
Verkäufer: „Laßt Euch nicht drängen. Wählet nur in Ruh und mit Bedacht.“
Damit verbleibe ich mit: Bedürfet Ihr eines Rates?

Weihnachtsdorf der Residenz
Definitiv unter meinen Top 3 in München. Den großen Weihnachtsmarkt am Marienplatz in München kennt jeder, was zur Folge hat, dass jeder dort ist. Um dem ganzen Trubel und dem eiskaltem Wind der durchzieht, zu entfliehen, einfach in die Residenzstraße (Bei Ludwig Beck am Rathauseck) einbiegen und am Anfang vom Odeonsplatz in die Residenz links abbiegen. Dort ist es windgeschützt, nicht voll und es gibt ein paar kleine nette Buden die eine Weihnachtsgeschichte erzählen. Es gibt nicht viele Buden, aber jene die da sind, sind genug. Ein paar Kleinigkeiten für Haus, für Leib und für Seele. Und hab ich schon erwähnt wie schön er ist, umgeben von den Mauern der Residenz gelegen im Kaiserhof?

Pink Christmas
Wer sich bis jetzt immer noch gewundert hat, was denn die Dragqueen mit einem Weihnachtsmarkt zu tun hat, findet seine Lösung hier. Darf ich vorstellen, der etwas andere Weihnachtsmarkt.
Der Markt beschreibt sich selbst wie folgt:
Er ist der rosarote Stern unter den Weihnachtsmärkten Münchens: Im 10. Jahr erstrahlt Pink Christmas im Herzen des Glockenbachviertels. Er ist klein, fein, bunt, abwechslungsreich – und so kommunikativ wie kein zweiter! Lesben, Schwule, Familien, Nachbarn und Gäste des Viertels fühlen sich hier gleichermaßen wohl und freuen sich auf die freundschaftliche Atmosphäre, das ungewöhnliche Händler-Angebot, den bekannt leckeren Glühwein und die einzigartigen abendlichen Show-Auftritte.
Ich denke das beschreibt diesen Markt am besten. Es gibt pinke Hammer, weißen Glühwein und bunte Christbaumkugeln. Es ist vermutlich der „Glücklichste Christkindlmarkt“ in München, wer abends der Show zuhört hat auf jedenfall einen besonderen Adventsabend erlebt.

Tollwood
Ich liebe die Tollwood und es ist einer der spektakulärsten Märkte. Normalerweise bekannt von den Münchner, aber unbekannt für Besucher versteckt sich der Markt nicht sonderlich gut auf der Theresienwiese, dort wo im Sommer die Wiesn (Oktoberfest) stattfindet. Tollwood gibt es zweimal im Jahr, einmal im Sommer am Olympiapark und im Winter zur Weihnachtszeit. Es gibt jede Menge Veranstaltungen, tolle ausgefallene Dinge zu kaufen und zu verschenken und ganz besonders toll ist das Essen. In einem der Zelte, im Food Plaza, findet man sich in einer kulinarischen Weltreise wieder, und dort gibt es alles, was gerne gegessen wird, aber nicht auf einem Weihnachtsmarkt zu finden ist. Sei es afrikanisch, mexikanisch, griechisch, äthiopisch oder Indisch, hier findest du alles und jeder findet genau das richtige, und wer es doch lieber klassisch mag, bleibt einfach draußen und kauft sich eine Bratwurst oder Steaksemmel und zur Nachspeise vielleicht einen Schokoladendöner? Und damit der letzte Punkt „Stärkster Glühwein“ auch noch geklärt wird: Wie wäre es denn mit DEM Treffpunkt auf der Tollwood, Feuerzangenbowle! Auf einen lustigen Abend.

Christbaumkauf in Rauchenberg
Das ist wohl mein absoluter Favorit und ich freue mich das ganze Jahr darauf, allerdings ist er A) nicht in München sondern in der Umgebung und B) kein richtiger Weihnachtsmarkt.
Wer einen Christbaum kaufen will, geht dort hin. Es gibt eine Pferdekutschenfahrt durch die Baumplantagen, eine lebende Krippe, Bäume zum selber Schlagen, leckeren Punsch und Bratwurst und den spektakulärsten Christbaum. Dieser besteht aus mehreren Christbäumen und ist vermutlich der Baum mit dem größtem Umfang. Oh und hab ich schon gesagt, dass es Rentiere gibt? Und wenn es dann auch noch schneit, ist für mich die Weihnachtszeit komplett.

What does a Drag queen, a knight, Jesus and the strongest hot punch have in common?
You can find all of them at the Christmas markets in Munich.
I assume it`s not hard to say why you´ll find Jesus there, right? You can find him as a little wooden figure in the christmas crib or written on a card which says „Happy Birthday Jesus“, also the hot punch is a typical thing on Christmas markets, but the strongest? And WTF is a Drag queen and a knight doing there? Munich has so much to offer, especially around Christmas you´ll find many markets and some of them are so special and unique that they count to my all time favourite, and I´m about to share them with you.
Christmas market at the Chinese Tower
So you´re standing at the Chinese Tower, in the English garden and listen to Bavarian music.
It´s one of the most classic markets from my Top 7. A little market, surrounded by trees, booths that sell handmade stuff, the smell of pine trees and fresh waffles is in the air, they have Hot punch as we know it and under the tower, decorated with chains of lights is a brass band. If you bring kids to entertain you can send them to the „Reading Grandma“. The are sitting on sheep fur and listening to Christmas stories.

Christmasmarket in „Schwabing“
It´s more like an art market than a Christmas market, they say about them self „…we are leaving the daily life..“. This market is great to get a few last christmas presents, they do have really great pieces and all of them are handmade. If you want to eat you can not only find „Bratwurst“ (sausage), Tarte Flambee or Crepés, but also Baguette or Gyros.

Medieval Christmas market
Finally we’re getting to the knight and where could you find him better than on a Christmas market in a Medieval style? Not only are the shacks perfectly decorated for that theme, but also the clothes from the seller fit wonderful. Very special are the shows they have regular. This market is not a secret so it´s pretty crowded but that just means that it is worth it to go there. And maybe you hear sentences like these:
„Dost thou know the time?“
„Mayhap I will fetch the ale.“
„‚Tis most splendid!“
„Fare thee well, My Goodman.“

Christmas village in the Residence
Definitly in my Top 2 in Munich. Everybody knows the big market at the „Marienplatz“, which means, that everybody is there. To get away from it all and also the cold wind which blows through the place, you can turn left at the „Ludwig Beck am Rathauseck“ Shop and keep going to the beginning of „Odeonsplatz“. Right there you’ll turn right into the residence. It’s lee, not crowded and there are some cute booths that tell a Christmas story. There aren’t a lot booths but the ones there are enough. You can buy stuff for your house, heart and soul. And did I mention how pretty it is, surround with the walls of the residence?

Pink Christmas
If you still were wondering what the Draq queen is doing at a Christmas market, here is the answer. May I introduce to you, the somewhat different Christmas market.
It describes itself as follows:
For the 10th time „Pink Christmas“ will open this years doors in the heart of the famous „Glockenbachviertel“ in Munich. It is a small, pretty, colorful, diversified market – and as social as no other! Gays, locals and guests feel equally happy and are looking forward to the friendly vibes, the various and special stands, the famous tasty „Glühwein“ as well as our unique nightly Show-Acts.
I guess that’s enough said about this market, You can get there pink hammer, white „Glühwein“ and colorful ornaments. It’s probably the „happiest market“ in Munich, and if you stay during the show at the evening you definitely will have a special night.

Tollwood
I love the Tollwood and its one of the viewiest markets. If you’re from Munich you know about this market, but it’s unknown by so many strangers cause it hides not very good at the „Theresienwiese“, where the Octoberfest takes place in summer. Tollwood is two times a year, in the summer at the „Olympiapark“ and in Winter during the Christmas time. There are various events, crazy things to buy and the food is awesome. In one of the tents, the Food Plaza, you’ll find yourself in a culinary world trip. They really have almost everything you wouldn’t expect at a Christmas market, starting at African cuisine, Mexican, Greek, Ethiopian or Indian. You’ll find the right food for sure, but if you rather wanna have it classic you can stay outside and get a Bratwurst or a Steak in a bread and for dessert maybe a Chocolate Doner? And to clarify the last point „strongest hot punch“: What about going to THE meeting point at the Tollwood, „Feuerzangenbowle“? To a funny night!

Buying a Christmas tree in Rauchenberg
This is my absolute favourite and I´m looking forward to this the whole year, however it is NOT directly in Munich and it’s NOT a real Christmas market.
If you wanna buy your tree, you should go there. They have a horse carriage which drives through the tree plantation, a live nativity scene, you can fell a tree oneself, drink delicious punch and eat a sausage – Bratwurst. They also have the most amazing Christmas tree, it’s made with a lot small trees, so it has probably the biggest range under the Christmas trees. OH and did I mention that they have reindeers? And if you’re lucky enough it snows and the Christmas time is Complete.

Erstmal ein riesiges Lob für deinen wunderschönen Blog! Ich war 2014 das erste Mal in München und hab mir bewusst mehrere Weihnachtsmärkte angeschaut. Mein absoluter Lieblingsweihnachtsmarkt wurde dann der am chinesischen Turm. Und weil es mir so gut gefallen hat, geht es im Dezember dieses Jahr gleich wieder nach München.
